I’ve heard from a few users that email subscribers aren’t receiving posts, and I’m investigating it now. Will keep everyone updated here.
Some background: on February 15, we put in some additional checks on emails to make sure we’re not emailing out posts when the newsletter feature is disabled on your blog. (One user had reported that they were seeing this issue.)
This attempt at a fix seems to have caused this new issue – though it doesn’t appear to affect everyone. Many posts are still going out just fine. But please chime in here if you’ve noticed any issues!
More updates to come.
Hi Matt, thank you for taking a look at this.
I am experiencing the email issue. I am one of the subscribers to my blog and did not receive emails for the past two posts.
The last email I received was the post I made on February 13, 2025. However, I did not receive an email for my February 15 post.
When this issue is fixed, will my subscribers receive emails for the posts that weren’t emailed? That would be ideal if you have the capacity.
Thank you,
Fa @ Talk to Fa
Thank you, this is really helpful to know! I’m going to revert that latest change, so that should at least fix the issue going forward.
Otherwise, I’m working on a new feature that’ll show you which posts never got sent as emails, and then let you manually send them again – so that should help make sure people still get those posts. Going to get that done tonight if possible, stay tuned!
Okay, I’ve reverted the change that I believe broke this initially, so any future posts should get sent out via email without any trouble. But please let me know here if you still notice any issues!
As for those existing posts that didn’t go out, I’ll need another day to finish up that capability to re-send. But will post here when that’s done!
I just published a blog post and can confirm that the emails got sent. Thanks for fixing this!
Glad to hear it!
You are a lifesaver, @matt!
I just made a post and received the email. I appreciate you taking care of this so promptly.
Something that might interest you. I’m subscribed to my blog with my Gmail account. Today, the email came to the “Updates” tab of Gmail. Before Feb 15, I used to get the emails in the “Promotions” tab. I wonder why.
Please let me know when the feature to re-send old posts is ready.
Fa
Of course – glad it worked for you too!
Hmm, that is interesting! Gmail is really in control over how they classify everything, but maybe it’s that particular post, or the kinds of posts getting sent out from Write.as in general that’s changing how Gmail sees those emails.
You can now see posts that haven’t been emailed, and manually send them!
To do this, go to your blog’s Subscribers page, then click the “Advanced” tab. If any posts didn’t get sent out, you’ll find them here. Then you can click Send now next to each post to send it out, or Delete to remove the job, so that post won’t ever get sent out. Here’s what it looks like:
Please let me know how it works or if you run into any issues!
Thanks again. I re-sent a few old posts using the new feature. Interestingly, those posts came into the “Promotions” tab.
Very happy the email feature is working again, and now we have this new feature. I appreciate your dedication, @matt!
I used the Send now
button for the only post that didn’t get sent out. I received past posts in the main tab of Gmail (Inbox) and I still got the latest one there, not under Promptions or Updates.
I’m not sure if it’s related: my emails don’t get sent, but this includes when a user tries to subscribe:
- I try to subscribe with a test email
- The page refreshes but nothing happens
- I try again
- I see the “abuse activity on this IP address” page
