Firstly, I’d like to thank the Write.as team for developing such an amazing platform. I’ve been a user of the free tier since 30 June 2020, where I’ve hosted a small blog for some volunteer work I do—a mere 44 pages. That’s also where I got to learn the quirks of draft documents and fell foul of the anti-spam features, requiring an unblock.
In 2024, I started a blog on the Listed.to platform in conjunction with Standard Notes, and have since posted around 250 pages (150k words). It was upsetting to hear that they’ve recently decided to shutter the platform.
So, I thought: why not migrate it to Write.as? I quickly realised I’d need the paid plan, so took advantage of the 14-day trial, then worked flat out to modify the custom CSS to achieve UK Green Party branding.
Next, I wanted a search facility on the site. For perfectly understandable reasons, Write.as has to restrict the functionality needed to run such things server-side. However, I managed to put together something that works rather well in conjunction with searchmysite.net.
I’m also a long-time user of the fediverse, and the new site delivers a fediverse post as straightforwardly as it does email. There is just one small niggle I’ve been unable to resolve, though: a fediverse post with an upfront image gets rendered like this in the browser. ![]()
Is this known about, and/or is it fixable?
Cheers, Gareth
