Mailgun immediately disabled account I was planning to use with writefreely

Hi all,

I recently set up a blog with Writefreely and a friend wanted to subscribe via email, so I looked into Mailgun and made a free account with them to test things out. Immediately after account creation, I got a banner saying my account was temporarily disabled. I hadn’t entered a custom domain, generated an API key, or sent any emails with them. Upon starting a support ticket stating my use case (writefreely blog, want to enable email subscriptions for friends), they responded saying they had permanently (!!) disabled my account. Has anyone else had this issue with Mailgun?

I’m assuming that I wouldn’t be able to/shouldn’t try to make a second account with them since they’ve likely blocked my home IP, so I’m locked out of setting up email subscriptions to got now. Any help at all would be appreciated! Thanks!

Hi @Cathrach, did they ever give you any other explanation besides that they just disabled your account?

Hi @matt,

Thanks for replying. They didn’t, and also said I couldn’t ask why:

" Hello _,

After reviewing your account details and activity, we’ve decided to permanently disable your Mailgun account.

Unfortunately, we are unable to fully disclose specific reasons behind this action in order to protect our customers, internal processes, and compliance systems. Our Terms of Service or Acceptable Use Policy are available on our website with more information.

Regards,
Mailgun Support
"

I also can’t pull up the content of my original ticket because my account is permanently disabled, but I felt like it was pretty anodyne and wouldn’t make it seem like I was planning on spamming anyone. (In fact, the free account only allows you to add up to 5 emails, and the email recipients have to validate that they want to receive emails from your Mailgun account, so I really was just planning on using it for that one friend.) I would be interested in hearing if other people had similar experiences with Mailgun.
