Login does not work

I set up writefreely, have it running on my domain and on port 9393 and I get to the empty page. When I try to login it accepts my credentials but stays on the same page (using wrong credentials gives the expected “wrong password” message.

I am getting the following in the terminal:

2025/11/25 23:36:48 Login: Attempting login for ‘gmkeros’

2025/11/25 23:36:48 Login: Redirecting to /me/new

2025/11/25 23:36:48 Handler: Required a user, but DIDN’T get one. Sending not logged in.

2025/11/25 23:36:48 “GET /me/new” 401 43.643µs “Mozilla/5.0 (Android 14; Mobile; rv:145.0) Gecko/145.0 Firefox/145.0”

2025/11/25 23:36:48 “GET /login?to=/me/new” 200 658.104µs “Mozilla/5.0 (Android 14; Mobile; rv:145.0) Gecko/145.0 Firefox/145.0”

Anyone got an idea what I am doing wrong?

This sounds like maybe the authentication cookie isn’t being saved to your browser. Did you run this step?

writefreely keys generate

If that works and generates the keys, you’ll want to restart the WriteFreely server and then it should work.

Unfortunately the issue remains the same after regenerating the keys. It still claims if did not get a user.

(To double check I created new users and regenerated the keys again multiple times. In each case it claims it did not get a user)
