I managed to get in touch with Matt @write_as@writing.exchange through Mastodon and he gave some very prompt advice.
Today after family stuff I had another attempt at getting an instance up and running, again a lot of errors and to me as a non-developer type - dead-ends. As i pointed out I know enough to get into trouble, but not enough to get out of it…
Eventually I have managed to get a working instance using Nginx and Mysql (no luck with SQLite) set up on an AWS EC2 VPS. Once my domain is fully transferred and I know all is good I will attempt to put down my process in words as a How To!
