We’ll probably take Snap.as open source / self-hosted when the product is basically done and we’ve had time to refine and test it over time, like we did with Write.as. In the meantime, we’ll support photo uploading in WriteFreely (forum discussion / task).
You can do this today by adding this bit of text wherever you want to cut off the preview:
