I’d really like a default blog language setting, preserving the current option to override the language per-post. Changing the setting manually for every post introduces unnecessary friction and sometimes I end up forgetting.
Also, the official Write.as themes should use exclusively the default language for every element on a blog’s website, including post dates and other metadata. I’m Italian but write 100% in English. If a non-native English speaker understands 99% of the text on my blog, it makes absolutely no sense to have 1% of the content in their own local language. And it may give the impression the blog is misconfigured or the author is sloppy.
This feature seems to have been silently implemented. By default new posts now have English as the language, which is what I want, instead of Italian as Write.as used to work.
This actually hasn’t been implemented yet, though it’s still on my list.
What’s more likely happened is that your default browser language changed. When posting from the web, we automatically detect the browser language based on your default. I know this can also not be ideal, but I think that’s a separate issue we need to address.
As far as this discussion, we can work on setting a default language for the blog, whether that’s the overall default for the blog itself (for common elements on the blog), or the default for newly-composed posts.
This is indeed the case. I switched from ChromeOS to Linux and changed the system language from Italian to English. It’s an acceptable workaround, but I’d still appreciate Write.as support for setting the default language for a blog or newly composed posts.
